Nigel Gray Award

The biennial Nigel Gray Award for Achievement in Tobacco Control was established by Cancer Council Victoria to recognise our unsung heroes whose tobacco control efforts in the Oceania region have significantly advanced health outcomes for the public. The award is peer-nominated and is judged by a committee of experts.

The award is named after Dr Nigel Gray AO, who was a pioneer of tobacco control both in Australia and Internationally, Director of Cancer Council Victoria from 1968 until 1995, and President of the Union for International Cancer Control from 1990 to 1994.


Dame Tariana Turia Award

Hapai Te Hauora Maori Public Health and the Cancer Society of New Zealand – Te Kahui Matepukupuku o Aotearoa, are delighted to present the inaugural Dame Tariana Turia Award.

Dame Tariana is a fearless advocate for tobacco control, a previous co-leader of the Maori Party a political party in New Zealand and a champion for reducing inequalities in Maori smoking rates in New Zealand. The Dame Tariana Turia Award recognises the need for reducing harm within Indigenous communities.


Tobacco Control Early Career Award

The inaugural Early Career Award was established by the Tobacco Issues Committee to recognise up and coming early career professionals whose efforts in the Oceania region have the potential to lead, or have already led to advanced tobacco control outcomes.The award is peer-nominated and is judged by a committee of experts.


Cancer Council Medal for Distinguished Service

The medal is awarded to recipients who have made an extraordinary contribution to reducing the impact of cancer on Australians through research, clinical practice or support.
