Scholarships

Scholarship submission is NOW CLOSED.

Through generous support of our Partners, Ministry of Health NSW and Cancer Institute NSW as well as our Diamond Sponsor the Heart Foundation, Cancer Council NSW is offering a limited number of assistance packages for professionals, researchers and students to attend the conference.

The primary theme of this year's conference is 'Making tobacco control a priority'.

This event attracts health experts and researchers in the field of tobacco control across Oceania and provides the opportunity to meet and explore current issues as well as ideas for the future.


Available Scholarships

Four levels of assistance packages are available for successful applicants and will be paid by Cancer Council NSW, as follows:

Level 1: Conference registration costs

Level 2: Conference registration costs and hotel accommodation costs for 3 nights

Level 3: Conference registration costs, hotel accommodation costs for 3 nights and return economy airfares 

Level 4: Conference registration costs, hotel accommodation for 3 nights, return economy airfares and up to $250 subsistence (food, travel etc.) costs while attending the conference. Please note, there are a very limited number of Level 4 assistance packages on offer. 


Guidelines

  • Applications for assistance packages close at AEST 5pm on Friday 14th June 2019. No late applications will be accepted.
  • A limited number of assistance packages are available, and submission of an application does not guarantee a package will be awarded.
  • All applications will be assessed on merit, based on the eligibility criteria.
  • Cancer Council NSW may limit the award of assistance packages where multiple applications are received from one organisation.
  • Decisions on all assistance packages will be announced by Friday 14th June 2019 and offers to the successful applicants made by email. All decisions will be final and at the sole discretion of the conference Organising Committee. Applicants may be offered a different level of assistance package to that applied for.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications are open to professionals, researchers and students in the field of public health, or for whom tobacco control forms part of their work.
  • Applicants must reside in the Oceania region.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who: 
    • have submitted an abstract of a paper that they are offering to present at the conference
    • reside in resource poor settings
    • work with Indigenous populations
    • work in the Pacific Islands
    • work with high needs populations; and/or 
    • work in the not-for-profit sector
    • have a focus on or capacity to influence tobacco control policy settings
  • Applicants must have no affiliation with the tobacco industry.
  • Applicants must adhere to all terms and conditions of the Oceania Tobacco Control conference found here.

  • Does your application fit the Cancer Council NSW's guidelines?
  • Have you completed all sections?
  • Have you signed the Terms and Conditions for the the Scholarship Declaration?
  • Have you attached a copy of your Curriculum Vitae (CV)?
  • Have you attached a copy of your abstract for conference presentation (if applicable)?
  • Have you taken a copy of your application for your own records?

External Scholarships Available

PICTicipate Scholarships

Pacific Island Countries Participation Fund (PICTicipate) gives Pacific Island citizens the opportunity to apply for support to attend regional and international conferences or events related to their countries' development. 

PICTicipate will cover or contribute to the costs of Pacific Island citizens' attendance at conferences, such as travel and accomodation costs.
